About the artist
Derek Wiafe is a London based photographer with a particular interest in British youth and sub-cultures. His recent body of work explores the playful and often elaborate online personas found on the web. Derek has photographed a number of Myspace residents in order to discover more about these extravagant personalities and to learn more about the creators of these characters.

About the class
For this masterclass Derek Wiafe and Studio12 worked with a group of 16-19 year old young women, from Future Pathways. Within the class the participants gained an introduction to digital photography and studio portraiture in order capture their own unique profile. They learnt how to operate digital SLR cameras, set up studio lighting and selected their own unique back-drop.

Before the class the participants were asked to consider their answers to the following questions. Their answers were then discussed during the classes and used as a starting point when writing their own individual biographical statements.

Who are your heroes?
Who is your favourite band, singer, celebrity?
Your favourite song?
What are you studying/working for?
What makes you angry?
What are your favourite brands (clothing, gadgets, food etc)?
What would you protest about?
What is the most important thing in your world?
In an ideal world what will you be like when you are 30?
What three words best describe your personality?
