John Angerson
For the past decade photographer John Angerson has
worked around the world on assignments for a variety of international
publications. During this time he has brought his unique perspective to
a diverse array of subjects. 'Fishing Communities' provides a photographic
documentation of the fishermen, workers and communities supported by the
world fishing industry.
"For island nations, fishing is generally a key industry. In the UK, fishing remains the source of income for many coastal communities. In 2005, I journeyed across four continents to photograph fishermen, their families and communities: the people that rely on the industry for their livelihood.
The earth’s oceans now hold only 10% of the fish stocks that existed in the 1950s. This project documents a way of life that is seriously under threat. I wanted to create images that serve as a document of these men and women and their way of life as in years to come some of these communities may not exist." John Angerson
