Loiners: Portraits from Leeds - Casey Orr >>
Victoria Quarter - 12 June - 4 July
1998
Loiners: Portraits from Leeds, was a new body of work by photographer Casey Orr, commissioned by Pavilion. The work was shown as part of the Leeds Fringe Photography festival in conjunction with Photo98.

One of the photographic portraits on display
Fifty-two black and white photographic portraits of people from Leeds were placed within the shop windows in the retail outlets of the Victoria Quarter, Leeds. Placing the portraits of local people in between existing commercial images set up an ambiguity and raised questions about peoples’ identity and consumer aspirations. The series sought to explore questions about the late 90s style of advertising using ordinary people to sell products.
