The DIV. A self-portrait, 2006
Invisible Converstions was an exhibition of photography at PYRO Gallery Louisville, Kentucky (USA), by Leeds-based conceptual artist, Benedict Phillips, in which he focused upon the experience of Dyslexia through portraiture.
The exhibition featured life-size photographs exploring the memories and experiences of people with Dyslexia. Originally developed through a residency at the Yorkshire Artspace, the exhibition included portraits made whilst Phillips was in-residence at the headquarters of the Louisville Visual Art Association. The photographs resulted from a ‘conversation’ which Phillips had with each sitter, during which time the subjects drew an image of their dyslexia onto a chalkboard, which formed the backdrop to their portrait.
